Ingredients

- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 cups vegetable broth
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/2 cup peas (optional)
Instructions
- Rinse the basmati rice under cold water.
- In a pot, heat olive oil over medium heat.
- Add chopped onion and sauté until translucent.
- Add minced garlic and sauté for another minute.
- Stir in turmeric, salt, and black pepper.
- Add the rinsed rice and mix well.
- Pour in the vegetable broth and bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until rice is cooked.
- Fluff the rice with a fork and stir in peas if using.
Notes
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge.
- This dish pairs well with grilled vegetables.
