A hearty and nutritious red lentil dal packed with protein.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup red lentils
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 tomatoes, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 inch ginger, grated
- 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
Instructions
- Rinse the lentils under cold water.
- In a pot, heat oil and sauté cumin seeds until fragrant.
- Add onion, garlic, and ginger. Cook until onion is translucent.
- Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
- Add lentils, water, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
- Stir occasionally and add more water if needed.
- Serve hot with rice or bread.
Notes
- Adjust spices according to your taste.
- Add spinach for extra nutrition.
- This dish can be frozen for later use.
