Description

A hearty and nutritious red lentil dal packed with protein.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup red lentils
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tablespoons oil

Instructions

  1. Rinse the lentils under cold water.
  2. In a pot, heat oil and sauté cumin seeds until fragrant.
  3. Add onion, garlic, and ginger. Cook until onion is translucent.
  4. Add tomatoes and cook until soft.
  5. Add lentils, water, turmeric, coriander powder, and salt.
  6. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 20-25 minutes.
  7. Stir occasionally and add more water if needed.
  8. Serve hot with rice or bread.
