Description
A classic homemade eggnog recipe for the holiday season.
Ingredients

- 4 large eggs
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 cups whole milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1/2 cup bourbon or rum
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until well combined.
- In a saucepan, heat the milk and cream over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
- Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
- Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously until it thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and stir in the bourbon, vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
- Let it cool, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Serve chilled, garnished with additional nutmeg if desired.
Notes
- Adjust the alcohol amount to taste.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the bourbon or rum.
- Can be made a day ahead for better flavor.
