A classic homemade eggnog recipe for the holiday season.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup bourbon or rum
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until well combined.
  2. In a saucepan, heat the milk and cream over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  3. Slowly pour the warm milk mixture into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring continuously until it thickens slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in the bourbon, vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon.
  6. Let it cool, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving.
  7. Serve chilled, garnished with additional nutmeg if desired.

Notes

  • For a non-alcoholic version, omit the bourbon or rum.
