Description

A hearty chicken dumpling soup made from scratch.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups carrots, sliced
  • 2 cups celery, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine chicken and chicken broth. Bring to a boil.
  2. Add carrots, celery, onion, thyme, and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  3. Remove chicken, shred the meat, and return it to the pot.
  4. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. Add melted butter and milk to the dry ingredients. Stir until combined.
  6. Drop spoonfuls of dough into the simmering soup.
  7. Cover and cook for 15 minutes or until dumplings are cooked through.
  8. Serve hot.
